"Joao was an engaging, knowledgeable and informative guide with a genuine interest in preserving Lisbon's living history. We really appreciated the small group setting and the well-paced, downhill walk. This tour that took us beyond the standard route was a highlight of our visit to Lisbon."

Full Description

Spend three enthralling hours walking the old town with a local guide who knows it inside out. We move through Chiado, Rossio, and Baixa at an unhurried pace, mostly downhill, with plenty of time to stop and look.

What sets this tour apart is the shops. We visit around
15 of Lisbon's government-protected Lojas com História, and we go inside them, something no other tour in the city offers. You'll see the landmarks Lisbon is known for, from grand riverfront squares to century-old funiculars. And you’ll hear the stories behind them, for a real introduction to Portugal's history and culture.

And (included in the tour price) you'll
taste two local favorites: a pastel de nata, Portugal's famous custard tart, and a glass of ginja, Lisbon's much-loved cherry liqueur.

Along the way:

  • The world's oldest operating bookshop, Livraria Bertrand, trading since 1732
  • The original home of Ginja, the cherry liqueur Lisbon is known for, since 1840
  • Casa do Alentejo, a 17th-century Moorish-style palace tucked behind a plain street entrance
  • Igreja de São Domingos, a church dating to 1241, still scarred by the fire of 1959
  • The Elevador da Bica funicular, cobblestone streets, and hand-painted tiles
  • Praça do Comércio on the riverfront and the grand square at Rossio
  • Fun, easy-to-follow stories about Portugal's history, food, and traditions
  • A stop for a pastel de nata  and a ginjinha  if you fancy one, at two of the best spots in the city

How To Find Us

Our heritage walks begins in the heart of the city at Praça Luís de Camões.

Your guide will be waiting for you directly in front of the statue in the center of the square.

Meeting Point Address:  Largo Luís de Camões, 1200-243 Lisboa

By Metro: Take the Blue or Green line to the Baixa-Chiado station. From there, follow the exits toward 'Praça Luís de Camões.'

By Tram: The iconic Tram 28, Tram 24 and Tram 12 stop right at the square.

Rides: We highly recommend using Uber or Bolt.

Local Insider Tips:

Skip the Street Taxis: We recommend avoiding traditional street taxis as they are known for inconsistent pricing with visitors.

Check the Elevation: Unless you are prepared for a steep uphill climb, we suggest taking transport to the square. Remember our tour is downhill, so save your energy for the walk with us!

Also Included:

Local Tastings:
A pastel de nata and a glass of ginja along the way, two of Lisbon's best-loved treats.

20+ Insider Recommendations: Our own "Best of Lisbon" list for eating, drinking, and hidden gems.

WhatsApp Support: Direct access to our private group for local advice throughout your stay.
